FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS...

How much do you know about our school's history? Well, you're in luck. Here's a link that will take you back in time to the roots of Hilo's impressive and interesting Catholic history. Catholicism is one of several belief systems woven into Hawai`i's multicultral fabric of Aloha.

We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear Class of '62 classmate and one of this newsletter's most active reporters, Charmaine. Services were held on August 2 in Pahoa, HI.

7/28/2025 CLASS OF '62 QUIZ

Here's another high school brain teaser quiz:

Without looking at the yearbook, can you match the names to the caption under the photos in the Class of 1962's Yearbook? Ever wondered if we lived up to our high school persona? To check your answers click the "ANSWERS" link at the end of the quiz. [We can already hear the giggling. LOL!]

#1 - "I enjoy life in general."
#2 - "She hath a sweet disposition."
#3 - "You may have blues, but not I."
#4 - "My heart is ever at your service."

[From Lumen 1962 Vol. XI, No. 4]

Boys Wanted For Track

The biting of dust, the exhausted face, and daily practices are the usual factors in a track team.

This year, the Saints have had a poor turnout for track. In four meets, the Saints have produced only two boys to represent our alma mater at the Viking Oval. It has been made clear to the Cardinal athletes, that those who participate in baseball will NOT be allowed to run track. Our 880 yard relay team has been broken up because of this ruling and we have suffered a loss.

If you'll recall, the relay team of last year was invited to participate in the annual state track meet. Posting a 1:35:9 seconds last season, the Cards were running faster as the meets went by. This year we may have to start from scratch. Recently however, few boys have come out and actually practiced. Only 2 seniors will participate in meets according to our source of information. We firmly emphasize this statement: Individuality is the result of a Track Team!!! Do come out!!

Who are we?

The newsletter is supported by voluntary help for its stories and content. We are not employed or compensated by the school or its staff. We are an all-volunteer handful of classmates trying to keep other classmates informed by sharing news and information. Your comments (and news reports) are always welcome.

Our intention is not to offend anyone. The idea is to keep everyone connected and informed. Hopefully, we bring smiles and some good memories.

Speaking of memories, we try to proof all of the content; however, some errors do slip through so don't get mad.

We cover news, information, and general articles of interest in regard to the St. Joseph's High School classes of 1962 and 1963, although other classes are more than welcome to post information in the newsletter. To request a posting, E-mail the Editor (Likeke).
