This is Landen; he was diagnosed with JDM on August 10, 2018. Symptoms started about 4 weeks prior to diagnosis (yes, it was caught very early). He started with a rash on his hands, I thought maybe it was from something he touched while camping... the rash wasn't going away so we went to his pediatrician, she was unsure what it was and referred him to the dermatologist. The dermatologist was unsure what it was and sent pictures to UW and Seattle Children's... by this time the rash had grown to all the boney joints on his body and he was showing signs of muscle weakness (limping and unable to walk). Seattle and UW immediately said "JDM" and wanted to see him ASAP. We were sent to Seattle Children's where he was officially diagnosed with JDM. He was admitted and started treatment. Today, he is doing well and responding well to treatment.
