I am Alena Jade "AJ" from Martindale, Texas. I began having JDM symptoms in the Summer of 2010 and was officially diagnosed with Juvenile Dermatomyositis in January 2011, at 20 months old. Since, I have bravely undergone surgery for a muscle biopsy, undergone an intense IV treatment, MRI and was treated for weeksby wound care for an ulcer in my armpit. Currently, at 3 1/2 years old, I stay very busy by attending physical, play, occupational and speech therapies. I continue with daily oral Prednisone and Folic Acid, weekly Methotrexate injections, and monthly IVIG treatments. My mommy and I gracefully take what we've been faced with and have made the best of our CURE JM journey. My mommy always says I am "AJSTRONG". To my family, I am a miracle sent by God to help us realize not to take time for granted. People are always amazed at my positive spirit with all that I have gone through. PEACE, LOVE and CUREJM!
